An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to undertake the role of an Investigator Communications Data and Internet Intell in the 24/7 unit, who are now agile workers, based at Headquarters Northfleet and home working, within the Serious Crime Directorate.
This is a challenging role that requires the successful candidate to provide a point of contact between the Forces and Telephone Operators. Receiving and assessing applications for Communications Data through the Essex Police workflow system known as ‘OPTICA’. Ensuring that all communications data acquired is justified, necessary, and proportionate, abiding by the Investigatory Powers Act (IPA) Legislation 2016, and other National Guidance/legislation surrounding the acquisition of Communication Data. The role of the Investigator Communications Data and Internet Intell will involve acting as a Single Point of Contact (SPoC) providing advice and guidance to Officers and staff of all ranks, including Senior Investigating Officers as well as liaising with Senior Management on technical capabilities that can assist various serious crime investigations.
The role will also involve attending major and serious incident briefings, you will provide advice and support about communications data acquisition and how that can support the investigation of serious crime. The role includes the provision of high priority services for major incidents, serious crimes, and life at-risk situations, working with Senior Investigating Officers, telecommunications companies, and social media providers to facilitate the use of sensitive tactics in crime investigation.
The position is based on a 24/7 shift pattern of earlies, late, and nights.
The successful candidate will have a good level of knowledge around information management and technology and information gathering and analysis, and be able to demonstrate the ability to work within a team environment to provide excellent service delivery and make decisions in dynamic, live time situations. Knowledge of the management of police information and crime investigation would be advantageous for the role.

The successful candidate will need to be available to attend a mandatory 2-week course in Ryton Police College, dates to be advised.
The role will offer flexibility in terms of place of work, including the potential to work from home for those who would like to. If home working is agreed upon for the successful candidate, there will be a requirement to regularly attend a designated ‘Team Zone’ location on average one or two days a week, as agreed with the line manager. Currently, the designated Team Zone for this role is located at Headquarters Northfleet.
