As a product developer, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for initial engagement with members of West Midlands Police who are exploring learning and development solutions to help address emerging issues or to enhance existing service provision in line with WMP strategic priorities or national priorities.

You will be involved in initial scoping exercises which may include supporting a formal learning needs analysis before indicating whether a genuine learning need exists, or whether other options are available to address the need. You will support and advise those people requesting services of how to complete a business case which includes supporting baseline evidence of need and predicted outcomes.

Where a learning need exists, you will use your knowledge of the various options for delivering learning to establish the most suitable methodology which, where appropriate, reinforces blended learning and a 70:20:10 approach to learning. You will develop links with key stakeholders and seek the support of lead practitioners and training staff in order
to research, and design products for subsequent delivery.

You may be required to attend various meetings or project boards to offer advice on training options available as part of a broader program of work. You will be well organized, a good communicator, and a team contributor with exceptional self-discipline in order to work with minimal supervision.

Essential Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Knowledge of developing training products for both classroom and online delivery, covering all elements of the training design cycle
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current tools available to create and design training products.
  •  A recognized training qualification (Level 3 Award in Education & Training) or equivalent training experience
  •  Evidence of exceptional oral presentation skills and excellent writing skills
  • Evidence of excellent relationship building and an ability to work well with others over different areas of the business
  • Ability to communicate, negotiate and influence at all levels
  •  Ability to problem solve and work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and workload understanding when to escalate to supervision
  • Excellent IT skills in windows based operations including word, excel, PowerPoint.

Desirable Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Experience of conducting learning needs analysis
  • Experience in a training role or environment
  •  Experience as a trainer, including the ability to facilitate, run seminars and focus groups
There will be the opportunity to train in all the current and new tools that we use to design and create products, for example, Articulate, learn, Go to App, and pontoons.
Whilst you will be based at Tally-Ho Police Training College, Edgbaston, Birmingham, you may be required to work across the West Midlands Police area and beyond as business needs dictate.
