The Riverside County Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) is recruiting for multiple Social Services Practitioners I positions for the Administrative Services Division for the Program Development and Grants Management Unit (PDGM).


The incumbent will be responsible for case management, advocacy, outreach, and housing for the Housing and Disability Advocacy Program (HDAP). They will be tasked with providing assistance for services such as, but not limited to conducting assessments for program eligibility; providing housing assistance; preparing and submitting applications on behalf of clients for Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary Program for the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (SSI/SSP); the federal Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program;  the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI); and any available disability benefits programs that an individual may be eligible to receive

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES


• Study and apply the principles and techniques of social work to a caseload which includes basic types of services problems.


• Interview clients to ascertain the nature of their problems and develop advocacy and housing service plans; carry out services plans and manage cases; make referrals to community resources and assist clients with change in environment; maintain necessary casework records.

• Interpret public social services rules, regulations, and policies to clients and the general public when assigned.

• Attend training courses designed to further understanding of social work processes and to increase technical competence.

• Frequently conduct field visits, away from the home office, which may include long distances to carry out service plans, observe and assess client needs, and provide information and social work services.

• Assess the client’s family environment to determine the potential or imminent risk to the safety of children/disabled adults/elderly residing in the household; when safety needs dictate, remove children/ adults from home and transport them, complying with all safety regulations, including the use of age appropriate California safety mandated equipment, when assisting with initial removal or facilitating a placement change, which may include managing/lifting the client's necessary assistive equipment (e.g., wheelchair).

• Maintain up-to-date electronic records of all aspects of client case management in a centralized database.

• Perform evaluations/assessments of client needs for the Housing and Disability Advocacy Program (HDAP).


• Identify the need for, and make referrals to, other services available to the client.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, preferably with a major in social welfare, social or behavioral sciences, social/human services, counseling, or a closely related field to the assignment.
