Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred, along with three years of college coursework and/or related experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Candidates should possess a working knowledge of recreation activities and special events assistance, as well as familiarity of equipment and techniques for various recreational activities. The ability to plan and organize events and activities effectively, provide leadership to volunteers, and follow oral and written instructions is essential. Strong oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals from different cultures, backgrounds, and age groups, are required.   Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview.  Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.


This position offers the opportunity to work in the exciting environment of special events, supporting a wide variety of fun events throughout the year for county residents. Under the direction of the Special Events Coordinator, responsibilities include coordinating event details with vendors, entertainers, county departments and support staff. Duties also involve organizing, maintaining, and distributing supplies and equipment; collaborating with event volunteers and groups; managing Rec-n-Roll mobile playground; assisting with on-site logistics; and providing event operational support during special events.  Additionally, the role includes providing customer service to event attendees. Perform other work as required.


Shift varies 5-20 hours/week; Monday – Friday, depending on need and event schedule; occasional nights and weekends
