Join our team! If you have a California class B license with tanker endorsement, your skills in heavy equipment and road maintenance are needed on our County roads. This is the first working level in the Road Maintenance Worker series that offers the opportunity to utilize your general knowledge and skills to identify and tackle issues.

While knowledge of safe working practices are key, proficiency operating most heavy equipment is a must. Knowledge of these areas is necessary:

  • Provisions of the California Vehicle Code relating to the operation of medium and heavy equipment on streets and roads
  • Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in the repair and maintenance of roads
  • Work zone safety and traffic control

These strong skills are also highly desirable in an applicant:

  • Learning to maintain and make minor repairs on roads
  • Operating chippers, chainsaws, and other hand tools for roadside vegetation management
  • Understanding and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Working well as part of a team
