Overview

Under supervision, installs, services, and performs scheduled maintenance, and conducts new construction and repair of existing roofing systems and waterproofing on County's real property and facilities.

Typical Tasks

  • Applies per manufacturers specifications, several different types of roofing and water proofing systems;
     
  • Diagnoses problems and make proper repairs, according to manufacturers recommendation, on all types of roofing systems;
     
  • Determines the compatibility of different roofing systems;
     
  • Selects the proper tools, equipment and supplies to perform installation, service, scheduled maintenance, and new construction on roofs and roofing systems;
     
  • Evaluates safety needs, establishes and implements proper safety measures;
     
  • Uses and inspect all applicable safety equipment;
     
  • Maintain current certification in first aid, C. P. R., E.H.A.P. and other safety training required by the County to perform the duties of the position;
     
  • Reads, interprets, and applies manufacturers specifications;
     
  • Reads and applies Building Codes, Material Safety Data Sheets, Employer Safety Manuals and other applicable law and regulation;
     
  • Performs other related tasks as required.

Employment Standards

Successful completion of an apprenticeship program certified by the State of California for Roofers or equivalent training and experience sufficient to perform the typical tasks listed above and acquisition of the following knowledge and abilities.

All candidates must have a valid California Driver's License, which qualifies for a County Driver's Permit upon appointment.

Knowledge of:

  • Roofing products, systems, and their compatibility;
     
  • Tools and equipment used in the application of roofing systems;
     
  • The effect on roofing systems by other trade applications and how they can impact the application or life cycle of a roofing system;
     
  • Manufacturers recommendation, on several different types of roofing systems of roofing systems, and other types of roofing applications;
     
  • Blue prints;
     
  • Safety equipment, and their proper use;
     
  • First aid, and C. P. R.;
     
  • Electrical hazards, asbestos, and other hazardous materials that may be contacted in the course of work.
Ability to: 
  • Diagnose problems and make service repairs, perform scheduled maintenance, and perform new construction according to manufacturers recommendations on a wide range of roofing systems, and applications;
     
  • Properly use, inspect, and train others in the use of all applicable safety equipment;
     
  • Maintain current certification in first aid, C. P. R., E.H.A.P. and other safety training required by the County to perform the duties of the position;
     
  • Read, comprehend, interpret, and apply information contained in blue prints, manufacturers specifications, building codes, Material Safety Data Sheets, other applicable laws and regulations, and any other related documents;
     
  • Evaluate safety needs, establish and implement proper safety measures;
     
  • Create and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
