Overview

Nature of Position

The supports older adults and people with disabilities through the City of Alameda's thriving, well-loved paratransit program! Working out of the Mastick Senior Center, this position will administer, conduct outreach, and support the City's paratransit program.

This is a part time job expected to be scheduled for 28 hours each week with limited benefits including 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and enrollment in PARS, Public Alternative Retirement Service.

Distinguishing Features

The Paratransit Coordinator administers, conducts outreach, and supports the City of Alameda (City) Paratransit Program, which includes the following initiatives: 

  • Free AC Transit Bus PassesServes low-income older adults and people with disabilities who reside in AlamedaOver 900 people are currently enrolled and taking a total average of 16,000 rides per month.  

  • Alameda Independent Mobility (AIM) Program. This concierge service provides subsidized rides on Uber/Lyft to low-incomresidents who are enrolled in East Bay ParatransitThe program serves 125 participants taking a total average of 83 rides per month. Eden I&R holds the City contract to provide this service at this time. 

  • Travel trainingGroup workshops to help older adults and people with disabilities access transportation options, including Transportation 101, Transit App Training, and Hop on the Bus with Us programs.  

  • Mobility assistanceAssistance for individual Alameda older adults and people with disabilities to access transportation options, such as the City of Alameda’s AIM and Free Bus Pass programs, East Bay Paratransit, and Senior Clipper Cards.  

The Paratransit Coordinator job consists of: 

  • Approximately 60% direct service administration. Provide one-on-one mobility assistance to help people determine which transportation options they need, help them sign up for programs, and hold group travel training workshops and events. Conduct administrative tasks to fulfill enrollments in AIM and Free Bus Pass programs. 

  • Approximately 40% program management. Maintain vendor relationships for the AIM and Free AC Transit bus pass programs, including option to approve invoices. Conduct annual program evaluation through ridership analysis and a public survey. Monitor program budget and help develop annual budget. Participate in Alameda County Transportation Commission Paratransit Advisory and Planning Committee (PAPCO) and the Paratransit Technical Advisory CommitteeSupervise 6-8 hours/week of an administrative support position.  

Employment Standards

Desired Experience & Qualities  

  • Experience with direct services, especially to vulnerable communities. Experience serving older adults and people with disabilities a plus.  

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, transportation options for older adults and people with disabilities, including paratransit programs and transit trip planning. 

  • Ability to maintain patience, kindness, and a service mentality. 

  • Ability to work independently. 

  • Ability to present clear information in a group setting. 

  • Experience managing a program. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, Google Translate tools.  

  • Multilingual a plus, particularly Cantonese.
