Kind of Work

 Professional, supervisory and administrative work involving the oversight of systematic and routine assessments of both instructors and instructor material to measure and plan continuous improvement for the New Orleans Police Department's Training Academy as mandated by the Department of Justice Consent Judgment. Work includes reviewing and approving primary instructional materials such as curricula and lesson plans; coordinating the delivery of recruit training, in-service training, and specialized training on an annual basis; structuring and designing course of instruction for Academy's primary course modules, including Recruit Training, In-Service Training, and specialized training; overseeing instructor selection process; ensuring that Academy pedagogy reflects educational best practices; overseeing and driving implementation of required Consent Decree reforms; and related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. A Master’s degree in Psychology, Education, Educational Psychology, Criminology or Criminal Justice or in a closely related field from an accredited college or university.* 
  2. Seven  (7) years of full-time paid professional post-Master's experience, with at least two (2) of those years directing, teaching, evaluating courses, and developing curricula and academic programs; work must have included one (1) year acting in either a supervisory or administrative role in a higher education institution or in the managing of an adult education program.

  Professional experience is paid experience gained in a position that required a Bachelor's degree upon entrance.  Civil Service reserves the right to determine what is considered to be professional experience. Civil Service reserves the right to determine which experience qualifies as relevant.

This position requires a one (1) year probationary period.

Kind of Examination

A rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related precious experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however credit on the rating and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
