This position assists clients in applying and enrolling into Washington Apple Health, Qualified Health Plans, Orca Lift, public assistance offered through DSHS, and other assistance programs available to King County residents. This position is part of Access and Outreach, a section within Public Health's Community Health Access division. We strive to break down barriers and improve access to healthcare services by offering direct in-person and telephone support in addition to networking with community-based organizations to promote education and outreach for targeted populations that historically have the worst health outcomes. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to care and knows how to get it.

Why Should Someone Apply to this role?
Healthcare navigators are a great resource to the community. This is a role for someone who knows how difficult the healthcare system can be to navigate and who has a strong desire to serve the community with empathy. This is also for someone who has a desire to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

 - This position will primarily support people receiving services at the Meridian Center for Health, however, there are plenty of opportunities for getting out into the community for outreach on evenings and weekends.
 - We serve a wide variety of languages. The person in this position must have patience and be comfortable using interpretation services to ensure that clients receive accurate and complete information.

Commitment To Equity and Social Justice
Named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of the most influential civil rights leaders in our nation's history, King County is a vibrant international community with residents that represent countries from around the world. It is a region with increasing diversity that cherishes the traditions of many cultures.
The county government has a deep commitment to equity and social justice and advancing practices, strategies, and policies that promote fairness, justice, and opportunity for all – in our workplaces and our communities. With this commitment, King County has adopted a pro-equity agenda to advance regional change and ensure that residents from all communities are incorporated into our emergency planning and public outreach efforts.
We recognize that structural racism consists of principles and practices that cause and justify an inequitable distribution of rights, opportunities, and experiences across racial groups. Since declaring Racism is a Public Health Crisis in June 2020, King County and Public Health committed to being intentionally anti-racist and accountable to Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities.
