Overview

This position assists clients in applying and enrolling into Washington Apple Health, Qualified Health Plans, Orca Lift, public assistance offered through DSHS, and other assistance programs available to King County residents. As a navigator II, this person will also provide technical assistance in support of King County's navigator network and provide community outreach and education to help reduce disparities relating to healthcare access. 

This position is part of Access and Outreach, a section within Public Health's Community Health Access division. We strive to break down barriers and improve access to healthcare services by offering direct in-person and telephone support in addition to networking with community-based organizations to promote education and outreach for targeted populations that historically have the worst health outcomes. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has access to care and knows how to get it.

 - This position will primarily support people receiving services at the Meridian Center for Health, however, there are plenty of opportunities for getting out into the community for outreach on evenings and weekends. 
 - We serve a wide variety of languages. The person in this position must have patience and be comfortable using interpretation services to ensure that clients receive accurate and complete information.

Job Duties

  • Facilitate enrollments onto Washington Apple Health and Qualified Health Plans. Determine if clients are eligible for traditional Medicaid and other qualifying programs through the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
  • Process re-enrollments, monitor client accounts for changes, updates, and correspondence.
  • Provide referrals to applicants to appropriate additional resources and programs.
  • Participate in outreach events to raise awareness of the availability of Washington Apple Health coverage and Qualified Health Plans. Collaborate with other clinic staff members to identify areas of opportunity for outreach and enrollment services.
  • Educate and provide information in a manner that is culturally and linguistically appropriate to the needs of clients.
  • Provide enhanced technical assistance to the current Healthcare Navigators and healthcare brokers in King County. Ensure the proper escalation of issues to the Exchange.
  • Identify underserved populations and develop partnerships and strategies that will address the needs of each community.
  • Develop culturally appropriate outreach materials with the support of program staff and conduct community based trainings. Assist program staff with reviewing and translating materials.
  • Create and maintain the websites for outreach and enrollment programs. Assist in organizing community health fairs and enrollment events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Minimum:

  • At least one year of experience providing enrollment assistance.
  • Must have current Healthcare Navigator Certification verified through WA Health Benefit Exchange (exception for current Public Health employees).
  • Able to travel to outreach locations with set up materials.
Desired:
  • One year experience doing community outreach.
  • Experience working with underserved communities.
  • Experience working in the healthcare system.
