The Compliance Specialist is the subject matter expert on investigating data loss and non-discrimination incidents within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services including third-party contracted companies, business associates, data sharing agreement partners, and MDHHS’ systems maintained by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget. Position is responsible for ensuring the Department’s compliance with incident response within confidentiality laws, nondiscrimination laws, regulatory agency requirements, third-party guidelines, and internal policies and procedures. This includes, among others, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), 42 CFR Part 2, Michigan Identity Theft Protection Act, Michigan Mental Health Code, Michigan Public Health Code, Title IV-D of the Social Security Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Affordable Care Act. This advanced, expert position will execute the regulatory, investigative, and administrative functions that will determine the Department’s legal and ethical responsibilities regarding all instances of data loss or unauthorized use and citizens’ non-discrimination allegations against MDHHS.

Required Education and Experience

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.


Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.

Additional Requirements and Information

The physical location of this position is 235 S Grand Ave, Lansing MI  48933.  Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. 

Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
