Kind of Work

Responsible supervisory code enforcement work in securing and maintaining compliance with City code regulations pertaining to property standards, including junk vehicles, graffiti, vacant lots, junk yards, and zoning violations; and related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

(Original Entrance)

A high school diploma/GED*and six (6) years** of experience in a job involving general compliance, investigatory, or enforcement experience. At least one (1) year of this experience must be at the supervisory level.   **A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for (4) four years of the required experience. 


Permanent status as a Code Enforcement Inspector I or Code Enforcement Inspector II and three (3) years of full-time experience in the field of municipal code inspection with the City of New Orleans.

Note Some positions may require a valid driver’s license. 

* Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify education claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.

Kind of Examination

A  qualifying written exam* and a rating of training and experience, weighted 100%.  All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes, however credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years.

*Current employees in the classification of Code Enforcement Inspector I or II are exempt from the written examination.
