What You Will Be Doing
The incumbent will work both independently and as part of a team to oversee processing of servicing and capital reimbursable servicing agreements (RSAs), creating structure in the state accounting system (IRIS), completing approvals in IRIS, treasury receipts, drawing federal funds, processing adjusting journal entries (AJEs) and performing credit card account administration. The incumbent will also be responsible for producing reports in the Alaska Data Enterprise Reporting system (ALDER), researching transaction information, and serving as a back up to other Accounting Technicians to ensure adequate cross training exists across our small team.

The position will help carry out the mission and vision by providing financial, and administrative support across the entire department, enabling staff to provide support to schools, districts, students, and families statewide.

The Working Environment You Can Expect
Our Juneau office is conveniently located in the State Office Building downtown. The position is assigned a cubicle with ample light, and has the option for teleworking after an initial training period, with the opportunity for some flexible scheduling. Our location is centrally located with plenty of parking, as well as nearby restaurants and coffee shops.

Our ideal applicant will possess some or all of the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience: 

  • Experience with researching and submitting transactions in a large-scale computerized accounting system. Experience with IRIS, the State of Alaska accounting system is desired but not required.
  • Experience with large-scale computerized data reporting systems, including the ability to create reports.  
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to train Accounting Technician 2 positions on more complex accounting tasks.
  • Ability to perform tasks efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.

Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
