What you will be doing:
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Division of Administrative Services (DAS) is looking to fill an Accounting Technician 1/2 Flex position.  This position provides administrative support to the Village Safe Water and/or State Revolving Fund Programs.

This position provides technical financial support by processing expenditures, monitoring financial activity, researching anomalies, and financial reporting.  As part of the DAS team, you will also work closely with accountants, program engineers and partners on a wide variety of administrative issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Accounting Technician 1 (Range 12):
One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.

Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month). 

Accounting Technician 2 (Range 14):

One year of entry technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience.

Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

  • Three (3) professional references, at least one of which must be from a current or former supervisor.  Include name, title and current daytime phone number.
  •  Copies of your last two (2) evaluations or letters of reference.
  • Copy of academic transcripts (unofficial are acceptable but must include the institution name/URL on documents provided):  Only if education is needed to meet the minimum requirements.
This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate’s credibly possessed and proven competencies. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher level after completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work.
