The Fairbanks International Airport (FAI), a division of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), is seeking an Airport Operations Officer to join our team and help Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing: 

The Airport Operations Officer works under the general direction of the Airport Operations Superintendent. The Airport Operations Officer is responsible for monitoring, coordinating, and directing all daily land side and air side operational activities at the airport to ensure a safe environment for air operations. Extensive knowledge of FAA and TSA regulations, security directives, advisory circulars, and experience in many different disciplines is required of the Airports Operations Officer. Independence and sound judgment is regularly exercised during both routine and emergency operations.


Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) is positioned 9.5 hours from 90% of the northern industrialized hemisphere. FAI boasts direct international passenger and cargo traffic, as well as a robust domestic market. The Airport Operations office is located in the Aircraft Response Center, which is a satellite building to the terminal of the Fairbanks International Airport. Minimum Qualifications

Seven years experience in airport operations that was subject to FAA, state or military rules and regulations, and involved commercial or general aviation operations, terminal operations, airport and runway maintenance operations, or aircraft operating area (AOA) issues. A broad range of experiences if applicable and specific to airport and runway operations will be considered qualifying.

Education from an accredited college in aviation management, transportation, business administration, or public administration will substitute for up to four years of the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equals one month of work experience).

Qualifying military experience must reflect ground, airside and landside operations experience to be considered qualifying or equivalent.

Special Note:
If an incumbent is required to use a firearm to assist in controlling wildlife hazards at the airport, he or she must be able to comply with the federal Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997 (PL 104-208). Any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence is ineligible for appointment to a position that requires the use or possession of a firearm or ammunition.

Candidates for this class must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542), which requires fingerprinting and a background check.

Employees are required to possess a current Alaska driver's license.
Employees may be required to maintain first aid certification.
